"The custom made amp is really great! I am truly happy with it, it sounds transparent, honest, musical and enjoyable. Whenever I play CDs, my toddler son would stop his mischief and give his attention to the music for at least 20 mins (and his attention span normally best 5 mins). Haha..".

"I'm glad that I've made the right choice. I like the Hypex's amp very much. It's something that I am looking for in a amp. It's warm, layback yet detailed. There is no lack of bass either and the bass is more controlled compared to the flying moles (fm). What I like most of the amp is the ability to project a more 'natural' human voice whereas fm have more brutal power."

"Thanks for building the UCD400AD dual mono integrated amp for me. The sound quality is amazing for the price. The amp easily drives my Cadence Avita electrostatic speakers with ease, exhibiting superb control in the bass region while providing crystal clear clarity at the top end.
The CRD mods works wonders for the UCD400AD. The highs are now well balanced with the mids and lows, with a see through clarity that rivals my Sennheiser HD650 headphones. At the same time, there is no trace of brittleness or glare except when present in the recording. The mid range is slightly warm and smooth. The lows are full of impact while retaining definition, lacking any sense of muddiness.
Even though my speakers only goes down to 40hz, it feels like the amp actually drives them down to the mid 30s. The stereo separation is also excellent, resulting in stable and well formed images on a wide soundstage. Even when the music gets complicated, it is easy to zoom in on individual instruments and voices. In this respect, it is very similar to my Sennheiser HD650s.
Prior to my purchase of the UCD amp, I auditioned many amp/speaker combos, namely the :
- Bryston amp / PMC FB1+ speakers
- Cary tube amp / Zu Cable Druid Mk4 speakers
- DK Designs Monoblock amp / Anthony Gallo Ref 3 speakers
- Ayre amp / Martin Logan Clarity speakers
- Sugden Class A amp / Spendor S8 speakers
- Hyperion amp / Hyperion 733 speakers
- Jadis tube amp / Sonus Faber Grand Piano speakers
- Almarro tube amp / Cadence Avita speakers
My UCD amp / Cadence Avita speaker combo sounds better than most of the combos, except for the Hyperion and Martin logan setup which sounds excellent as well. However, I recall that the Ayre amps driving the Martin logans cost in excess of SG$20k. The Hyperion amps sound great as well, but cost more than the UCD400AD due to their preamp/amp design versus your integrated amp approach. However, bear in mind that the listening rooms for all the above combos is different, which may have a significant impact on the perceived sound quality.
Even though I leave the amp on 24/7, it never gets hot enough to burn fingers. The aluminum base bolted inside the casing does a pretty good job of dissipating heat. My brother-in-law also commented that the amp looks nothing like a DIY amp, with build quality at least equal to that of a commercial amp. The layout of the parts inside the amp also appear very neat, focusing on minimizing the length of the signal path.
I honestly feel that it would be very difficult for me to find a commercial amp of the same price range having anywhere near the same performance as the UCD400AD amps. Great job!"

Had been playing the amp for quite a few hours. Bass seemed thin initially but seems to get fuller with more running in. Might be the best solid-state amp I have tried at home, seemingly better than my last SS amp, Pass Lab X-150. Now, it sounds almost like my KT88 tube amp but the 400AD's soundstage seems to be slightly less expansive and the midrange slightly less voluptuous. It does sound tube-like though compared with other SS amps, especially from the imaging perspective. I hope that it will sound even better with more running in.

The music produced by
your amp is incredible. It blows the T-amp out of the water. Heck,
I think
this MA silver rs1/Hypex amp/CA Azur 640 v2 sounded better than the MA silver
rs1/Cayin tube amp/Primare cdplayer I heard. It also sounded better than my
cousin's Linn/Audiolab/ Marantz combo.
Vocals are silky smooth and the bass has taken on a bigger and deeper dimension compared to the t-amp. The sound stage has also expanded by a mile. The clarity and resolution is also better. It sounded a bit tube like.
The t-amp presented instruments and vocals in separate planes. Your amp presented the music as a coherent whole. Very musical. :)~~ "
