Philips 963SA Mod

Well guys, this is it.  The real deal.  Without any publicity I have done at least 50 of these mods for 963SA.  Now I offer this mod to you.

Some comments from customers about EAM's Standards Mod.

Piggy Back the DAC

For improved resolution and better output current drive.  Used with success in Flagship Accuphase players.

Picture shows triple DAC configuration (2 extra on top of the original).  (option)

Included in the package is the double DAC configuration (1 extra)

State of Art Sample Rate Convertor
Replace the current Sample Rate Convertor used for CD-Upsampling function with the state of the Art AD1896A IC.

Independent Linear Power Supply for DAC and Analog Stage
Hand-built a linear power supply with FREDs and hi-quality components and oversized toroidal transformer.

This replaces the power supply currently used to power the DAC and Analog stages (Currently 963SA uses switched mode PSU—bad sounding no-matter what component you changes).

Relay controlled such that when the player goes to standby, this is off to save power too.

Progressive Scan Board Mod

Improve filtering and circuit changes to improve picture quality.

Comments from customer:

“The video performance is excellent.  I find the picture much more solid and film-like than before.   I must have watched my favorite test tracks in the Fifth Element / Santana / Gladiator 30+ times and never have I find the picture so appealing. I see details which I've not noticed before.  Colors are richer and more saturated (but never over)”

Low Jitter Crystal for CD-Upsampling
There has been a lot of bad mouth about 963SA’s clocking scheme.  Some of these guys didn’t even measure and bother to read the spec sheets before making such statements.  Let me clear it up.

A detailed explanation on the 963SA clocking scheme and history.

The 24.576Mhz clock is used to CD-Upsampling function (96K and 192K).  The stock crystal unit uses a 50ppm part for this (NDK AT-51 series).  I replace it with a 3ppm part..  The result is nothing short of astonishing.

If you really demand the best, you can opt to install the LC audio X03 clock, which really brings this player to another level.

Passive Component Upgraded

Critical location Caps changed to Aerovox (British made), elna cerafines, silmics, sanyo oscons and Blackgate Ns.  Th capacitor brands and values are chosen based on extensive subjective and objective evaluation. It results in a sound that is clean, closer and muscical withou obvious sonic signature.

Opamps (for fornt channels) replaced with my favorite LM6172.

CMC RCA connectors for front Channels (silver wire used for connection)

Chasis damping at critical locations with aluminum plates and damping sheets
