Marantz Amp 6100SA

Customer wants to maximize the performance of this player.  He likes the player due to its esthetics matching with the rest of his house.  He wants to mod it to the best of the player’s potential.  After discussion, we decided to go for the full blast.  Total Cost S$5xx

 Customer’s comments After Mod :

Yes, the mods are fanstastic. The bass which was previously lacking is now pronouced and well-defined even at moderate volume level. The mid-range has also improved -- increased in richness and more 'bodied' in the vocals. These improvements are gained without any noticeable loss in detail and transparency. After the mod, I could now enjoy to my old collection of rock and pop CDs that were previously awful-sounding in my Marantz Setup.

In summary, the integrated amp now behaves like one of a much higher-end I've heard that cost at least 3 times its current market price when new.

Internal view of the amp when I am studying the player’s potential for modding.  Note the original WBT speaker binding post of the player.

This is the amp after my mod :)/  Note the 3 new transformers to replace the original puny under-rated transformer.

This is the close up of the 3 transformers.  Really needed to find space to mount everything.

This is the volume control/preamp board after the mod.  Note the new large cerafine caps and yes, there are 2 opamps which I changed to LM6172 too.

This is the power amp section after the mod.  Note the new capacitors.  There are also 2 more opamp buffer stages which I changed too.  The original main caps are good quality so no need to change.

The bottom of the main board, which shows the film cap by-passing for critical locations.
