This is a very good DAC.  Very good floating power supply design, very good use of the cirrus logic CS4328 DAC.  I like it a lot and really don’t need much mods.

After discussion with the customer, we decided to go for a reclock for the DAC as well as light mods on the power supply with SMD capacitors

 

A bit more on reclocking:

In a normal DAC, the DAC extracts the clock from the SPDIF stream from the transport to use it for processing.  Unfortunately, this extracted clock’s jitter is hundreds of ps (pico seconds), even in the best case!!

In a reclocked DAC, the DAC uses a local clock for the conversion instead of the extracted clock from the transport (hence reclocked)  In this case, then the jitter which DAC sees will be that of the local clock.  A modified EA premium clock module is used for this application.  The jitter in this case?  3ps !!
