 Dean Khor

...on his Musical Fidelity X24K DAC

Hi James,

Yes, there is a difference following your mod on the MF X24K DAC. The sound staging is wider, and I can hear more clarity too. I am listening to music more often now without the fatigue. Great stuff!

Thank you very much.

regards,
Dean

...on using the tentlabs clock and his view of tentlabs clock vs the Kwak clock

Hi James,

Initially was skeptical about any further improvements....afterall, i do believe in diminishing returns. With the TentLab XO installed in the dac, which was a 45.XXXXMhz and then binary divided to obtain the 11.xxxxMhz and 44.1Khz, the improvements was as commented on the other thread started by Ruach on his LiteAudio Dac.

As i realized my tpt is using the 11.xxxxMhz, it seems to be a easy try to link back this clocking signal as u suggested. And with this configuration, results is although subtle and but is still tangible...dunno if it is my imagination...or placebo effect ....now the female seems to sound
more 'emotional'.......more involving. I still think it is a worthwhile try.....almost cost free....

I know there have been lots of debate on types of clock is better..eg. kwak clock, LClock, Tentlabs......etc. I have only tried the Kwak Clock and Tentlabs....and i really much prefer the Tentlabs...it really removes much of the harshness of the 'highs'....and better resolution, with a very airy presentation, something which the kwak clock did not catch my attention.

...on his fully modded 963sa

Hi James,

I really like the sound now after the latest mod. After ten hours of running in:The high sounds so sweet with no hardness at all!  Lovely when listening to violins and cellos.

The music is also much quieter now - wonderful when listening to classical at night. Wonderful separation of instruments and vocal within the acoustic space.  The music sounds so balance and right, while the images are very stable.

There is also more body and details to the music.  Previously, vocal was a bit lean but now it is beautifully fleshed out - you could hear the changes in the voice and instruments.  On Tsaikossky's piano concerto, you could hear the hammer hitting the piano string clearly.  Or the impact on the tambourine before the bells rings.  Wonderful!

Bottom line, a highly musical player with plenty of details.

Rgds,

P.s:  Oh yes, the video performance has also improved quite a lot.  In LOTR 3, Return of the KIng, the colours were so vivid with great contrast.  Superb!

.... on his modded Cambridge Audio A640C amplifier.

Hi James,

After listening to my amp, I can hear the cleaner & quieter background. Fantastic!! The soundstaging is awesome... it feels like i'm listening in widespread "surround mode".

The bass is now taut and precise to the point that where the CD player is able reproduce. (I think i will sell my subwoofer away but my girlfriend is going to kill me as its my Valentine's Day gift from her.)

The high frequencies are...oh so sweet and not excessively brash. Best part is the vocals! It sounds like the singer is trying to break free from within the speakers. Try to think of Sadako trying to come out from the TV... hehehe.

Once again, thank you James!! Hope when I send you my Cambridge Audio CD player, you can transform it into a Wadia... Just kidding.

Regards,
Jeffrey"

Hi James,

Everything is fine. Just like the comments from your customers that have mod their player, it sounds more vocal and the bass sounds tighter. Listening to CD now becomes much enjoyable. The sound are more detail than previous. Thank you for the good job.

Best Regards,
Kong CJ

... on using the tentlabs XO for his Asynchronous Non-Over Sampling DIY DAC.

Hi James,

Thank u for the fast delivery.......the clock is up and running in my DAC already......a worthy effort paid off by a more analogue sound, with a wider soundstage.

... on DIYing the Tentlabs clock into his Marantz CD63.

Hi James,

Unbelievable and fantastic! power supply can make so much difference.

Following your suggestion I removed the LT1086 and followed exactly the circuit shown on the web. Lots of improvements, Imaging greatly improved, the highs are airy and clear (more details heard), vocals are so realistic.

I used XRCD2 disc LT 1086 costs $5. I bought two because the first one was the wrong type (adjustable type) So 2 LT1086 cost $10.besides, need to use Tantulum cap which cost $2 each. The Transistor bc547 is only 30 cents.

     Lesson learned:
Cost More not necessarily means Better. Correct Application more important/ When I tested the voltage with a external power supply it gave 5V exactly whereas for LT1086 my digital meter was constantly hovering between 4.9 and 5.09 I remember

This great improvement would not been possible if you had not enquired and made the suggestion. Thanks
