The
new flagship from the Philips stable, the DVP9000sa really took its time
to come. I laid its foundation
with its hardware architecture and designed the analog board (I was the
project leader for this project) but left Philips before the project can
be completed. Like a marriage
of the stunning looking LCD Q50 and good sound of the 963sa, this player
took the best aspects of either player and really improved upon both of
them. No kidding.
The
mechanical fit and finish of the player is really the best to have come
out of Philips and accounts for much for the improved sound with a solid
rigid chassis and foundation. Definitely
in the same construction class as the denon and pioneer players in its
class!!
The sonics is no slouch either, with AD8066 opamp as standard for the
front channel and rubycon ZL caps for critical locations.
Really improved upon the complain we received for the 963sa which
can be rather coarse sounding. The
trump card is the CD upsampling---to DSD (SACD)!!
Measures crap but sounds gorgeous and really makes your CD sounds
close to SACD.
For Video, there is HDMI and the usual Farouja PSCAN video processing,
with the new ADI highest end video DAC for the YUV component output.
Really delivers the bucks and improves upon the 963sa video.
